My Little Dog...Batibot

My dog, Batibot
Born August 16, 2010, my dog, Batibot is now eight (8) months old.  He is very energetic and playful.  He loves to fetch.

I got the name of my dog from the Philippines children's television program called "Batibot."  It is an educational program based on Sesame Street premiering in 1984 with the name "Sesame" which was eventually renamed to "Batibot" after several years. Batibot means "small, but strong and robust" and so is my dog. As Sesame! the program used both English and Filipino as the media of communication, but after evolving into Batibot, the show became a completely Filipino language children's educational show. For some reasons, the program was shelved after almost 20 years of providing educational and wholesome entertainment to kids of the 80's and 90's generation. However, I am happy that the children show was revived back in November 27, 2010 and aired over TV5.

The original Batibot was produced by the Sesame Workshop (Children's Television Workshop) and Philippine Children's Television Foundation, Inc. (PCTVF). CTW broke this relationship with PCTVF in 1989.

The casts of the New Batibot aired at its new home, TV5

Happy Easter-rific Day !

CUTE EASTER BUNNIES !

Easter is the central feast in the Christian liturgical year. Easter marks the end of Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of the Lent is called Holy Week. Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Day or Easter Sunday (also known as Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday).

The Resurrection gives our life new meaning, new direction and opportunity.  The spirit of Easter is all about Hope, Love and Joyful living. Easter is a promise God renews to us in each spring.

May the promise of Easter fill our hearts with peace & joy !

Happy Easter ! An Easter-rific life to all !

Pettyjohn Pottery Exhibit

John Pettyjohn at work

I found a pottery exhibit while visiting one of the mall and the products were beautiful.  Arts and crafts has always been my interest.  The potteries were created by John and Tessy Pettyjohn.

John and wife, Tessy Pettyjohn have been creating works of ceramic art in their Pansol, Laguna workshop since the 1970's. The workshop, and the Pettyjohn's traditional, Filipino-style house are perched on the foothills of Mount Makiling, offering a spectacular view of Laguna de Bay, while surrounded by the lush greenery of the Makiling rainforest.

John Pettyjohn has spent many years in the Philippines experimenting with, learning about and sometimes teaching pottery. John is of Phil-American descent. He has learned his craft in Barcelona, Spain, where he started out as an apprentice at a small studio. His work is almost "one of a kind" or extremely limited editions. John makes traditional functional pottery.

John and Tessy Pettyjohn are pioneers in the world of contemporary Philippine pottery. Since 1979, they have made the art of fired stoneware and porcelain their passion. The Pettyjohns traveled around the country looking for clay and various stones used for glaze making like feldspar, quartz and limestone.

They participated in many exhibitions at Manila’s finest galleries and museums. They have shown their products in international festivals and exhibits in Korea, Japan, United States, Australia and Belgium. They founded the Putik Association of Philippine Potters in 2002 to promote Philippine Clay Art here and abroad.

The Learnings From Noah's Ark

NOAH'S ARK

It is Holy Week and it will be great to feature the story of Noah's Ark on my blog for everyone to reflect on it.  This story teaches us so many things that we can apply in our lives and I am glad a friend of mine shared it to me.

God saw how great wickedness had become and decided to wipe mankind from the face of the earth. However, one righteous man among all the people of that time, Noah, found favor in God's eyes. With very specific instructions, God told Noah to build an ark for him and his family in preparation for a catastrophic flood that would destroy every living thing on earth.

God also instructed Noah to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, along with every kind of food to be stored as food for the animals and his family while on the ark. Noah obeyed everything God commanded him to do.

After they entered the ark, rain fell on the earth for a period of forty days and nights. The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days, and every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out. As the waters receded, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Noah and his family continued to wait for almost eight more months while the surface of the earth dried out.

Noah's Ark : Everything I need to know, I learned from Noah's Ark

ONE: Don't miss the boat.

TWO: Remember that we are all in the same boat!

THREE: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.

FOUR: Stay fit. When you're 60 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.

FIVE: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.

SIX: Build your future on high ground.

SEVEN: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.

EIGHT: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.

NINE: When you're stressed, float awhile.

TEN: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

ELEVEN: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.

Sunpower Summer BBQ and Concert Rocks with Greg's song number "You've Lost That Loving Feeling"

With my boss, Gregory Reichow ~ Vice President for Sunpower Operations (Middle) with the Sunpower employees at the Registration Area

Every year, Sunpower Philippines Mfg. Ltd. holds a summer activity for all Sunpower employees.  This year it was a Summer BBQ and Concert held at De La Salle Canlubang School baseball field near Cell Fab 1.  It was a two-day event since we have to split the employees due to our population. Over the years, we have grown to around 5,000 employees in the Philippines. Our company decided to do the Summer BBQ because this activity is very close to Greg's heart and it will be great to have this before he moves back to the U.S.   Seven (7) years ago when Greg was still a Managing Director at our first cell fab in Laguna Technopark, he would ask our HR Department to organize a Barbeque Get Together with all employees.  Greg and the rest of his managers would cook the BBQ and serve it to all employees at that time.  We were still around 200 employees at that time.

This maybe the last time employees will see Greg so they wanted to have a picture with him
