My very own Santa's Reindeers
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
~The Night Before Christmas (A Visit From St. Nicholas) by Clement Clarke Moore~
Two of our family dogs named Nina and Daz gave birth to beautiful puppies this quarter. These dogs are related to each other as Nina is Daz' daughter. Our family loves dogs and they have been part of our lives since I was a child. Nina had five (5) healthy puppies and Daz had eight (8), however, sad to say only two of them live so the remaining two pups are the lucky ones. My stepmom said, Daz is not supposed to give birth yet so most of her pups did not live. One day, I was thinking of giving them names and in the spirit of Christmas, Santa's Reindeers came into my mind. Santa Claus originally has eight reindeers, who magically pull his sleigh through the sky. They are named Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder and Blitzen. There is another reindeer named Rudolf from the story "Rudolf, The Red Nose Reindeer" written by Robert May in 1939 and became popular and no.1 hit song in 1949 sang by Gene Autry. Due to this popularity, Rudolf became Santa's 9th reindeer, the lead reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve with a glowing red nose.
The Father and Mother : Batibot and Nina. Actually they are siblings but they were not born at the same time. Nina is about a year older than Batibot.
HERE ARE NINA'S PUPPIES : Born October 9, 2011
CUPID
Cupid flies straight as an arrow, with a keen sense of direction that always keeps him on course. He is usually harnessed alongside Comet and always hitched at the lead of the team. He is a very loving reindeer.
COMET
Comet can be relied on to stay on course no matter how strongly the winds blow. He displays a unique leadership ability. He is not as fast at Blitzen but fast enough to give the lightning-fast reindeer a run for his money. He is always hitched with Cupid at the lead.
BLITZEN
Blitzen is the fastest reindeer in the sleigh team. He has more determination and never backs out of any challenge. Blitzen is the German word for “lightning”. He is the second strongest reindeer and always hitched with Donder right next to the sleigh.
DASHER
Dasher is always ready and willing with lots of energy to spare. He is known for his short burst of speed and energy. Usually harness alongside Prancer, helping to fill the team with enthusiasm for the journey.
PRANCER
Prancer is full of fun and energy. He displays a tremendous amount of confidence and the most majestic of all the reindeers. If ever the sleigh team is flagging, it needs only to look to Prancer to put a spring back in its step.
Father and Mother : Pom-Pom and Daz
HERE ARE DAZ' PUPPIES : Born November 16, 2011, These are the lucky ones who survived out of eight puppies
RUDOLF
The newest member of Santas team Rudolph is smaller than the other reindeer, he makes up for it by having more heart and more stamina than the rest, plus that very special nose…At night and during bad weather he guides the sleigh and lights the way.
VIXEN
He is very clever and strong-willed. He can be relied upon to never give up, even in the worst weather. He has great strength and stamina. Usually harnessed alongside Dancer.
I only have seven (7) puppies so I am missing Dancer and Donder but here is something about these two reindeers
DANCER
Dancer's legs are strong and muscular and slightly longer than those of other reindeer. He displays flair and elegance. The most graceful reindeer in the team, although not the largest.
DONDER OR DONNER
Donder is the most powerful of the reindeer. His hoof beats sound like the rumble of distant thunder. In fact, Donder, means “thunder” in German. He’s always harnessed alongside Blitzen nearest to the sleigh where his strength is most usefull to control the weight of the fully loaded sleigh. Sometimes his name is spelled Donner.
