Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention (Dec. 10-12, 2010)

Changi Airport, Singapore

My destination was actually Malaysia.  However, since it was pick season for travel, our travel agent could not get me into Malaysian Airlines that flies directly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  I ended up taking the Philippine Airlines flight to Singapore ( I prefer to take SQ though but it is also full) and then travel by land to Melaka for about four hours from Changi.  Before I left the Philippines,   I discussed my travel itinerary with my boss and then he suggested that why not go around Singapore first since I am arriving early at around 2:00 PM. He told me to go to Singapore Flyer and as mentioned in my earlier blog, he gave me a free ticket.  It was so nice of him... a Christmas Present !  He also suggested to go to Suntec and Universal Studio.

Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention

There was another employee named Arnold Castillo from Manufacturing Technology Group who was on the same flight as I am but his destination was Singapore.  I invited him to come along with me to Suntec, Singapore Flyer and Universal Studio and he was interested to come.  Although it was his 10th times in Singapore already, he did not have time to go around during his past visits since he was busy with work.

Here are some photos from the Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention :

Sunpower Musicale (Christmas Party, December 10, 2010)

SUNPOWER MUSICALE (Christmas Party 2010)

Our company had its Christmas Party at the SMX Convention Center near Mall of Asia last December 10 and 13, 2010. I was not able to write about this soonest as I need to fly to Malaysia the following day and there were a lot of things going on that kept me so busy. You may be wondering why our Christmas Party was held for two days... Well, it is because our population is already around 4,500 employees for all  sites (Fab 1, Fab 2, Modco and SSO) and it is difficult for us to find a venue to accommodate such a big number of people.  We do it in two batches.  The highlight of this event was the Departmental Presentation Competition participated by our very own employees.  Once they move on stage, you will definitely be amazed by their talent and creativity.

My "Baju Kurung"

Baju Kurung

A good friend of mine from Melaka, Malaysia named Suhaila Mohd Zaki gave me a Baju Kurung yesterday to wear on her brother in-law's  Wedding Feast at the bride's home.  I was so excited to wear this costume and when I tried it on,  it perfectly fits me except for the skirt which was too long.  However, I managed to resolve the length problem by wearing it above the waist.  Nobody will notice it as the blouse is very long.

The baju kurung is a traditional Malay costume which loosely translated as "Enclosed Dress". This type of costume is the national dress of Brunei and Malaysia and can also be found in Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.

A baju kurung is a loose-fitting full length dress, consisting of a skirt and a blouse. The skirt is made from a long cloth with foldings on one side; the blouse is collarless, has long sleeves, and extends to between the hips and knees. It is usually made of silk, imported from Japan, South Korea, Turkey or India, or from the Malaysian States of Terengganu or Kelantan. The modern baju kurung commonly expresses lively colors and geometric patterns.Traditionalists prefer fabric from peninsular Malaysia's eastern states of Terengganu and Kelantan, where the culture of batik and other hand-designed fabrics is still strong. A woman will often wear a baju kurung with a headscarf (a tudung) in the more conservative states in northern Malaysia.

Well, later on I will show you myself wearing my Baju Kurung in a wedding feast.

In a Far Away Land

Travel

I am currently in a far away land, a land where women wear veil called "Tudong" and baju kurung.  I was so excited about my trip.  However,  I got sick on my first day and I don't feel well these days.  Maybe I got the virus from the people in the plane who were sneezing and  the people at the Changi Airport.  It was so crowded and noisy when I arrived as if there was a convention and then the driver who was assigned to me was coughing and a smoker.  The day after I arrived I started to have sore throat followed by cough and colds and I lost my voice due to my coughing. I cannot get a good sleep which is the thing I need.  Thanks to my friends for taking care of me.  The lime with a bit of salt in warm water made my throat better courtesy of Felicia Chin and the Woods Peppermint Cough Syrup recommended by Nadia and Alvin also helped me with my coughing.  Thanks to all my Malaysian friends who are taking care of me during this time. It is so hard to get sick when you are far away from home.

Woods Peppermint Cough Syrup which I bought at the Guardian Drug Store in Malaysia.

Well,  I got so many things to blog later on about my trip to Singapore and Malaysia but I need to feel better.  Watch out for it !
