A Transformer Guy at American Idol 2011 Audition

Optimus Prime, Drew Beaumier at American Idol Season 10 Audition
San Francisco, California

I have been watching American Idol Season 10 and one guy who auditioned in San Francisco, California got my attention.  It's unforgettable ! Drew Beaumier, a 24 year old bartender walked into the room in a fully functional transformer/autobot costume and sang "Born To Be Wild " by Steppenwolf.  The judges were impressed by his costume and Jennifer Lopez even wished that his son was there to see it. Randy commented it was brilliant.  Beaumier built the Ford "Transformers" suit himself using a child-size toy car. The transformer costume was cool and awesome ! However, he did not pass the audition....Optimus Prime forgot the lyrics in the middle of his song.

Beautiful Glamorous Eyelashes for Every Woman

LAVISH LASHES STUDIO PROFESSIONAL EYELASH EXTENSIONS

Everytime I see models and celebrities on magazines and televisions, the eyes always catch my attention.  Well, who doesn't like beautiful long, thick, curly and lush lashes.  I am sure every woman would like to have beautiful and alluring eyes.

To create glamorous eyelashes, women normally put on false eyelashes  to enhance and make the eyes attractive especially during special events. Wearing false eyelashes do magic and wonders to one's face. It makes the eyes look bigger, brighter and more beautiful !

Nowadays, there is another way to have glamorous and beautiful eyelashes ~ The "Eyelash Extension" which is gaining popularity among women in the Philippines. The eyelash extension was brought in by "Lavish Lashes Studio", a franchise of Lavish Lashes, LLC, a company based in California, U.S.A.

I went to Festival Mall, a well-known mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Philippines and a lady at the entrance gave me a leaflet introducing Lavish Lashes Studio Professional Eyelash Extensions.  I was not planning to have an eyelash extension, however, on my way to a store, I saw the studio and I got curious about it.  I went inside to inquire about their products and services.  They were offering semi-permanent eyelash extensions.  Below were the different types of eyelash extensions:

1.  Fancy Look   : Php 550.00
2.  Glamour Look : Php 800.00
3.  Extra Glamour Look : Php 1,000.00
4.  Beyonce-ish Lashes in the lavish look : Php 1,200.00
5.  Beyonce-ish Lashes in the Ultra-lavish look : Php 1,600.00
6.  Colored eyelashes are available

I got interested with their products and I decided to give it a try.  I scheduled an appointment and went back after a week.  I chose the "Fancy Look" for a more natural look.  I had to take off my contact lenses for them to work on my lashes. The professional staff informed me that I will be experiencing some minimal irritation and itchiness during the procedure.  The discomfort is remedied with the use of a small blower device. The lash extension procedure requires the use of a lash extension adhesive, adhesive remover, fine point tweezers and a synthetic eyelash.  After about 45 mins. to an hour,  the procedure was finished and they gave me a mirror to look at my new eyelashes.  Wow !  I was amazed and I love my eyelash extension.   The staff gave me an After-Care Instructions card with the following information :

1.  Avoid getting your lashes wet within the first 24 hours.
2.  Avoid swimming, steam bath or sauna for the first 2 days.
3.  Do not pick, pull or rub your extensions.
4.  Avoid oil-based eye products and waterproof mascara.
5.  Use cotton swab to remove make-up around the eye area.
6.  Do not use eyelash curler, perm or tint your extensions.
7.  If you experience any signs of irritation, you may be allergic to the extensions and need to have them removed..
8.  A touch-up every two to three weeks is recommended.

Lavish Lashes is an exciting new product and technique for thicker, longer, and naturally abundant looking eyelashes. Eyelashes are made thicker and longer through professional application of an individual synthetic eyelash directly attached to the natural eyelash with a specially formulated bonding agent. Lavish Lashes Professional Eyelash Extensions are for professional use only, and must be applied by someone trained and certified in applying eyelash extensions.

What you can expect with having Lavish Lashes :

1.  Professional Quality – Lavish Lashes Professional Eyelash Extensions are semi-permanent, lasting 4-6 weeks depending on the life cycle of your own natural lashes and other factors. Though the average cycle of a single lash is about 90 days, factors such as your eyelash characteristics, lifestyle, and general care of your lashes will affect how your Lavish Lashes last.

2.  Natural Look – If you look up close you can see that these individually applied synthetic eyelashes actually appear to have a root. If you would like to a larger version simply click on the image. They have a natural looking curve so there is no need to use eyelash curlers. They come in various lengths, colors and thicknesses to create a beautiful and natural look. Brilliant colors such as blue and green are very popular and help to accentuate the natural beauty and color of one’s natural eye color and natural lashes.

3.  Natural Feel – When professionally and properly applied, you cannot feel any difference after having your lashes enhanced with Lavish Lashes Professional Eyelash Extensions. If you do feel a difference then your lashes were not properly applied, and you need to contact your professional.

Adorable Little Pink Box Dolls

Cute Little Dolls from Pink Box

I went to the Pink Box Store at SM Mall,  one of the popular mall in the Philippines to buy some gifts for my  friends and I found these cute and adorable dolls with beautiful dresses.  Since they are so attractive I bought eight (8) dolls for my room.  I love collecting trinkets, ornaments and decors.

See how cute they are !

A doll is a model of a human being. Dolls have been around since the dawn of human civilization, and have been fashioned from a vast array of materials, ranging from stone, clay, wood, bone, cloth and paper, to porcelain, china, rubber and plastic.

While dolls have traditionally been toys for children, traditionally seen as a girls toy, they are also collected by adults, for their nostalgic value, beauty, historical importance or financial value.

Lucky Charms and Beautiful Ornaments

Lucky charms and beautiful Chinese ornaments

Just last week I went to a mall and noticed a stall selling various kinds of lucky charms and Feng Shui trinkets in different shapes and sizes and I decided to check it out.  I bought a couple of them for our home which I am featuring in this blog.  During this time of the year to welcome the Chinese New Year, you can actually find a lot of lucky charms and Feng Shui vendors especially in  Binondo, Manila where a number of Chinese/Chinese-Filipino lives and are doing business in that area.

These Chinese Loving Couple Figurines are so cute !

Love is an emotion that nearly everyone has experienced at some time in their life. Activate your love and romance luck within your home with a little help from Chinese symbolism! Add spice to your love life!

The Loving Couple Figurine depicts a traditional Chinese Wedded Couple portrayed as having a wonderful time enjoying each others company. They symbolize happiness, fulfillment, love and understanding. It represents a successful marriage. Symbolically jazz up your intimacy, attract a romantic partner and spice up your relationships!

It's the Year of the Rabbit this year so I bought a Rabbit Figurine

The Rabbit (the fourth Horoscope animal of the Chinese Zodiac) symbolizes graciousness, good manners, sound counsel, kindness and sensitivity to beauty. A Rabbit person possesses one of the most fortunate of the twelve animal signs. The Rabbit, or Hare as he is referred to in Chinese mythology, is the emblem of longevity and is said to derive his essence from the Moon. He is peace loving, has impeccable manners in the pursuit of a good life and intelligent in business with creative mind. It is believed that placing the Rabbit figurines in your home or workplace will strengthen and enhance all the good traits and characteristics it represents in family members born in the year of Rabbit.

If your horoscope reading says you will experience a tough year ahead, worry not. Your Rabbit figurine will give you the strength to see through it, help you to overcome obstacles, and make the most out of it to reap maximum benefits.

Mandarin Ducks Figurine

Known in Chinese as "Yuan yang", the Mandarin Ducks has long been regarded as one of the most beautiful birds. In the world of Feng Shui, these animals are used for relationship healing purposes.  A pair of Mandarin Ducks symbolize happiness in love and suggestive of romance, devotion, affection, conjugal fidelity, togetherness and enduring love. Mandarin ducks live in couples and mourn the loss of their mates, which is why the bird has long been regarded as the most traditional and the most potent symbol of love and married bliss in Feng Shui practice.

These beautiful ducks became popular feng shui symbol used to attract or enhance love and relationships and cure relationship problems. For people who are unlucky in their love life, you can use these ducks as Feng Shui cures. For singles, the pair of Mandarin Ducks will enhance your chances of finding love partners; for lovers, it will bring you marriage opportunities; and for married couples, a pair of Mandarin Ducks will strengthen the togetherness of the husband and wife and also help them achieve marital bliss.

I love "Tikoy" (Nian Gao) !

Nian Gao (Chinese New Year's Cake/pudding) or popularly known as "Tikoy" in the Philippines

The Philippines is once considered as the melting pot of Asia. People of different origins call it home – including the Chinese. Chinese customs, traditions, and good food were embraced by the Filipinos and even make it a part of their own.

Every year I am always looking forward to the coming of the Chinese New Year. This is because I love to eat my favorite Chinese traditional New Year dish called Nian Gao or "Tikoy" (Sticky rice cake/pudding). It is a type of rice cake made from glutinous rice flour and considered as a centerpiece during Chinese New Year.  It is available in most of the supermarkets during this time of the year but you can find this in the Chinese delicacies stores in Binondo, Manila all throughout the year. It is a belief that eating "Tikoy" will bring good luck, prosperity and family togetherness.  It is also said that eating tikoy or nian gao has the symbolism of raising oneself higher in each coming year.

Fried  Tikoy with egg

The myth about the Tikoy tells that there  was a Kitchen God that observes the behavior of each family for a year. It was said the Kitchen God goes back to heaven before the Chinese New Year to report the findings to higher deities; a depressing report would mean a year of bad luck for the family. According to the legend, feeding sticky rice cake to the Kitchen God will make it hard for him to say anything against the family – it will be difficult to speak when his mouth is full and the sticky rice cake will keep his mouth shut.

Nowadays, there are  variety of flavors to choose from and they all look yummilicious !!! Yum, Yum, Yum !

How to  Prepare your Tikoy or Sticky Rice cake/pudding :

1.  To easily slice the tikoy, chill it in the refrigerator for a few hours to make it firmer.
2.  Slice the tikoy to about 1/2 to 1/4 inch thick
3.  Beat an egg to serve as coating
4.  Put the sliced tikoy pieces into the beaten egg
5.  Prepare a pan with cooking oil and fry the sliced tikoy pieces for a few minutes (low to medium heat)

A Chinese New Year Atmosphere at the Malls ~ "KUNG HEI FAT CHOI" (Happy Chinese New Year)

February 3, 2011 is Chinese New Year or Chinese Lunar New Year
"Gong Xi Fa Cai " or "Kung Hei Fat Choy" (Happy Chinese New Year)

Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong,Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and also in Chinatowns elsewhere.

Festive decorations of Lunar New Year at the SM Mall

In anticipation of the celebration of the Chinese New Year,  most of the malls in the Philippines put up Chinese inspired festive decorations. If you observe the decorations, the prominent color is RED. From among a world of colors, red stands out the most. The color red is fresh and pure, and in China it is called  China Red. Chinese people are fascinated by the color red not only because of its intoxicating vibrancy, but also because of its rich meaning in Chinese culture and history. Red is the color of the auspicious, signifying reunion, health, happiness, harmony, peace and prosperity.

Beautiful Chinese red lanterns and other good luck accessories hanging on the wishing tree.

The Red Lantern (Hong Denglong), a special handicraft of Chinese tradition is closely linked with the lives of Chinese people, as you can find it everywhere, especially during festivals, holidays and other celebrations. Hanging on the front gate of houses and stores, red lanterns decorate the street in a unique way.

Lanterns in China are more than lighting devices and red lanterns are regarded as a basic symbol of the Chinese culture, a symbol of brightness, happiness and reunion. You see a red lantern and your mind thinks of China.

Supposed to warn away evil sprits while brightening the mood with the red glow of good luck, red lanterns are considered a necessity of traditional Chinese festivals. In Lantern Festival(the fifteenth day of the first Chinese lunar month), the preferred warm red of traditional lanterns creates a convivial atmosphere at the family reunion as well as lights up the hope for the New Year. Lanterns, especially the red-colored, deserve adoration for the magical element they add to the atmosphere.

The highlight of the SM Mall Chinese New Year decoration is the Chinese Astrological Signs or the Chinese Zodiac Signs

Chinese Astrological Signs (Chinese Zodiac Signs)

The Chinese Zodiac Signs are like the Western Horoscope Signs in that there are twelve of them. Chinese Astrology Signs are based on the year that you were born rather than the day of your birth. Each of the twelve Chinese Zodiac Signs is represented by a particular animal. The Chinese Zodiac Signs are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Lamb, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. The animal ruling the year of your birth exercises a profound influence on your life. It is thought that each Chinese Astrology Sign embodies its Animal's characteristics, as seen by Eastern eyes, in the people born that year.

2011 is the Year of the Rabbit

Character of Persons under Each Sign (From Travel China Guide)

Year of the Rat –1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020, 2032, 2044

Though in people's eyes, the rat is not adorable, and even some Chinese sayings that related to it have almost derogatory meanings, it ranged as the head of the Chinese zodiac. It was recognized as an animal with spirit, wit, alertness, delicacy, flexibility and vitality.

People under the rat sign are usually smart and willing to accumulate wealth and to make efforts to be successful. Throughout their lives, there will be many other people who can bring great fortune to them. Thus despite timidity, most of them are happy and harmonious with others.

Compatibility - Best match: dragon, monkey, ox; Avoid: sheep, horse, rabbit, rooster

Year of the Ox - 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021, 2033, 2045

Ranked as the second zodiac, the ox has a large volume. In the life, people often used the ox to indicate something big or large in number. The ox is sedulous, simple, honest, and straightforward. Fractious people are said to have an 'oxen temper'.

People born in this year are probably honest, laborious, patient, obstinate, and poor at communication. Leaders in their career may not discover their abilities. In their old age, they would be bestowed with happiness. Women are usually good wives who pay attention to children's education, but are likely to believe others' cajolery, so should be cautious.

Compatibility - Best match: rat, snake, rooster; Avoid: dragon, horse, sheep, dog, rabbit

Year of the Tiger - 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022, 2034, 2046

Tigers, considered to be brave, cruel, forceful and terrifying, are the symbol of power and lordliness. In ancient times, people usually compared emperors or grandees with the tiger. Court officials often said that 'accompanying the emperor is just like being at the side of a tiger'. There are also many legends on hunting tigers dealing with struggling against evil might.

People born in the year of the tiger are tolerant, staunch, valiant, and respected. In their middle age, their fate may be uneven, but afterwards will enjoy a bright prospect. Their shortcoming is to project themselves before others. But most women under the tiger sign are intelligent, faithful and virtuous.

Compatibility - Best match: horse, dog; avoid: snake, monkey

Year of the Rabbit - 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023, 2036, 2047

The rabbit has represented hope of the Chinese people for a long time. It is tender and lovely. The moon goddess Chang'e in Chinese legend had a rabbit as her pet, which stimulated the thought that only the rabbit was amiable enough to match her noble beauty. The Chinese character 'Tu' (rabbit) is part of 'Yi' (escape or leisure) indicating speed and distance. The Han people have a custom that a pregnant woman is not allowed to eat rabbit meat for fear that the child will be born with a harelip. The newborn is given paintings of children and rabbits representing that the child will have a peaceful and happy life.

People born under the sign of the rabbit are gentle, sensitive, modest, and merciful and have strong memory. They like to communicate with others in a humorous manner. They cannot bear dull life, so they are good at creating romantic or interesting spice. But they lack meditative abilities and often sink money into ideas that may cause failures in their career.

Compatibility - Best match: sheep, dog, pig; avoid: rat, ox, dragon, rooster, horse

Year of the Dragon - 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024, 2036, 2048

The dragon enjoys a very high reputation in Chinese culture. It is the token of authority, dignity, honor, success, luck, and capacity. In ancient China, a dragon was thought to speed across the sky with divine power. Emperors entitled themselves exclusively as 'dragon'; their thrones were called 'dragon thrones', their clothes 'dragon gowns'.

People under the sign of the dragon are lively, energetic and fortunate. They often can be leaders and try to go for perfection. When they meet with difficulties, they are not discouraged. But they are a little arrogant, and impatient, and women are over- confident. If they overcome these defects, they can have a brighter future.

Compatibility - Best match: rat, monkey, rooster; avoid: dog, ox, dragon, rabbit

Year of the Snake - 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025, 2037, 2049

In the Chinese zodiac, snake is listed after the dragon, but its place and the significance as the symbol of worship is far behind the dragon's. The snake carries the meanings of malevolence, cattiness and mystery, as well as acumen, divination and the ability to distinguish herbs. In some places, people believe that a snake found in their court can bring delight. In Spring Festival, people like to paste onto their doors and windows the paper-cut 'Fu' character (happiness), combined with the snake twisting around a rabbit as a popular pattern indicating wealth.

People born in the year of the snake often have a good temper, a skill of communicating, and a gracious morality, but they are likely to be jealous and suspicious. They should be cautious about discussion with others, as that might cause them to lose friendship and opportunities. Women under the sign of the snake do well in housework but are irritable. They might gradually enjoy happiness in their old age.

Compatibility - Best match: ox, rooster; avoid: tiger, monkey, pig

Year of Horse - 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954,1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026, 2038, 2050

The spirit of the horse is recognized to be the Chinese people's ethos – making unremitting efforts to improve themselves. It is energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able. Ancient people liked to designate an able person as 'Qianli Ma' (a horse that covers a thousand li a day).

People born in the year of the horse have ingenious communicating techniques and in their community they always want to be in the limelight. They are active, clever, kind to others, and like to join in a venture career. They cannot bear too much constraint. However they are interested in only the superficial level of an object, neglecting the essence. Once they suffer from failure, they become pessimistic.

Compatibility - Best match: tiger, sheep, dog; Avoid: rat, ox, rabbit, horse

Year of the Sheep - 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2027, 2039, 2051

The sheep is among the animals that people like most. It is gentle and calm. Since ancient times, people have learned to use its fleece to make writing brushes and skin to keep warm. As it is white, people describe delicate and precious white jade to be 'suet jade'. Thus it is close to the meaning of good things.

People under the sign of the sheep are tender, polite, filial, clever, and kind-hearted. They have special sensitivity to art and beauty, faith in a certain religion and a special fondness for quiet living. They cope with business cautiously and circumspectly. In their daily life, they try to be economical. Women born in this year are willing to take good care of others, but they should avoid pessimism and hesitation.

Compatibility - Best match: rabbit, horse, pig; avoid: rat, ox, dog

Year of the Monkey - 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016, 2028, 2040, 2052

The monkey is a clever animal. People used to compare it to a smart person. During the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC – 476 BC), the dignified official title, marquis with the pronunciation 'Hou', was the same as the monkey's. The monkey was thereby bestowed with auspicious meaning. It appeared on pictures pasted on the walls and doors to predict good fortune in officialdom.

Most people born in the Year of the Monkey are lively, flexible, and versatile. They love moving and sports. To help others they put their own business aside. When communicating, they do not like to be controlled and have a strong desire to present themselves. In their work, they will show amazing creativity. If they are not impatient and mouthy, they can gain more achievement.

Compatibility - Best match: rat, dragon; avoid: tiger, snake, pig

Year of the Rooster - 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017, 2029, 2041, 2053

The rooster is almost the epitome of fidelity and punctuality. For ancestors who had no alarm clocks, the rooster's crowing was significant, as it could awaken people to get up and start to work. Another symbolic meaning the rooster carries is exorcising evil spirits. People used to worship ancestors and believed in fortune telling for a long time.

Roosters are considered to be honest, bright, communicative, ambitious and warm-hearted. They might be enthusiastic about something quickly, but soon might be impassive. They have strong self-respect and seldom rely on others. As most roosters are born pretty or handsome, they might have several loves in their lives, treating each lover seriously. If they can overcome their arrogance, they will make more progress.

Compatibility - Best match: ox, dragon, snake; avoid: rooster, dog, rabbit

Year of the Dog - 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018, 2030, 2042, 2054

The dog is the human's friend who can understand the human's spirit and obey its master, whether he is wealthy or not. The Chinese regard the dog as an auspicious animal. If a dog happens to come to a house, usually the host will be very glad to adopt it, for it symbolizes the coming of fortune. Poodles, especially black poodles, bring more luck. The masters of dogs are not only humans, but the immortal in legends as well. The invincible God Erlang used a wolf-dog mix to help him capture monsters.

One born in the Year of Dog has a straightforward character. In their career and love, they are faithful, courageous, dexterous, smart and warm-hearted. Most women under this sign are appealing but lack stability. Correct this defect and good fortune will come to them.

Compatibility - Best match: tiger, rabbit, horse; avoid: ox, dragon, sheep, rooster

Year of the Pig - 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, 2031, 2043

A pig is not as smart as a dog in understanding human thought. It likes sleeping and eating and becomes fat. Thus it usually features laziness and clumsiness. On the positive side, it behaves itself, has no calculation to harm others, and can bring affluence to people. Consequently, pigs were once regarded as wealth.

People born in the Year of the Pig are honest and frank. They have a calm appearance and strong heart, but they lack patience and independence. As they do not like to talk in a roundabout way, they are thought to be unsociable. Luckily, they are tolerant and optimistic, so not until they become your friends can their virtue, advantages and fidelity to friendship be found.

Compatibility - Best match: sheep, rabbit; avoid: snake, pig, monkey
