Laguna Bel-Air 1 Trick or Treat

Halloween Trick or Treating is an annual event in the village where I live.  As early as first week of October my family is already planning for the stuff that we intend to put up as our halloween decorations.  It is always one of our project every year.  My stepmom also loves doing it and we combine our ideas to create some scary stuff.

With my stepsister (2nd from right), our househelpers and our dogs during the "Trick or Treat" last Oct. 29, 2011.  We also dress up our small dogs during this time of the year.

Parents and kids who visited our house were amazed by our halloween decors.  Many had their pictures taken. Young children were also afraid and were screaming.

THE GRAVEYARD

This is our neighbor's halloween set-up.  The owner incorporated sounds, lighting, and smoke.  Their daughter (child seated) also played a role. With all the effects, it really looks like a graveyard and it is hair raising.

My Disney Halloween ~ SunPower Trick or Treat !!!

It’s been a yearly activity at SunPower to celebrate Halloween. The highlights of the event involves a program and games for the children followed by “Trick or Treat”, best in costume competition and a Halloween décor contest. For two consecutive years, it has become part of my agenda to decorate the Administration area not to join the contest but to add fun and excitement to the Halloween spirit. To make those decorations is time consuming and very tiring but I am happy to do it for the children. Last year, my theme was “Creatures of Darkness” so it was so scary. This year, I have lighten it up and put a touch of Disney characters for the children. I ended up with the theme “Disney Halloween”. My colleague and I combined Disney and some scary characters. I hope next year, I still have the motivation to dress-up our area during Halloween.

There is something new this year, SunPower celebrated Halloween with our new Vice President for SunPower Operations, Mr. Jascha Ortmanns. I advised him to bring some candies and he brought a lot of goodies with him for the Trick or Treat. I asked him to stay in front of our Disney Halloween castle which is our Trick or Treat area. Maybe next year, I will ask him to wear a Halloween costume. He could be Count Dracula…he, he, he. Do you think he will do it ?

SunPower Dealer Incentive Trip 2011

About forty (40) executives from SunPower’s North America Residential Elite and Top Commercial dealers were given the privilege to join the 2011 RLC Dealer Incentive Trip. Part of the trip is the visit to the manufacturing facilities in the Philippines. Cell Fab 2 located at First Philippine Industrial Park, Batangas hosted the guests.

Our indoor basketball court was set-up to look like having a town fiesta. A fiesta had been part of the Filipino culture. It is a grand celebration in every town or province to honor the patron saint and to express gratitude for a good harvest. The place was adorned with colorful hanging paper flags and flowers, native hats and banana trees. A cute nipa hut was also built for this event. Nipa huts also known as “Bahay Kubo” were the native houses of the indigenous Filipinos before the Spaniards arrived. At present time, it still exists in rural areas . This native house is constructed using bamboos which are tied together and a roof made of nipa or anahaw leaves. The Bahay Kubo is symbolic for the Filipinos as it represents the value of “Bayanihan”, the spirit of communal unity to achieve a particular objective. The history of “Bayanihan” can be traced back to the early days where town community members volunteer to help a family move from one location to the other. They do it by carrying the house to a specific location using strong bamboo poles to lift it and carry the house to its new location.

To make the guests feel more of the Filipino spirit, Cell Fab 2 dancers composed of engineers prepared some Filipino folk dances. During their finale, the dancers went from one table to another and asked the guests to dance with them.

Some of the managers who are members of the Cell Fab 2 band also performed a couple of songs to entertain the guests. One of the participant celebrated his birthday that day so we greeted him. We sang the birthday song and gave him a small cake. He was requested to sing with the band and guess what ? Wow ! he has a good voice and everyone gave him a round of applause.

Finally, the event ended with the closing remarks of Robert Vinje, Vice President for Expansion who was so honored to meet the people who contributed to the success of SunPower in the highly competitive photovoltaic industry. To raise the enthusiasm of the dealer executives, Rob divided them into two groups and made them say my former boss’ (Greg Reichow) favorite slogan “MORE WATTS ! LOOKS GREAT ! The group who shouted ”More Watts or Looks Great”, the loudest and with more impact wins !
