About forty (40) executives from SunPower’s North America Residential Elite and Top Commercial dealers were given the privilege to join the 2011 RLC Dealer Incentive Trip. Part of the trip is the visit to the manufacturing facilities in the Philippines. Cell Fab 2 located at First Philippine Industrial Park, Batangas hosted the guests.

Our indoor basketball court was set-up to look like having a town fiesta. A fiesta had been part of the Filipino culture. It is a grand celebration in every town or province to honor the patron saint and to express gratitude for a good harvest. The place was adorned with colorful hanging paper flags and flowers, native hats and banana trees. A cute nipa hut was also built for this event. Nipa huts also known as “Bahay Kubo” were the native houses of the indigenous Filipinos before the Spaniards arrived. At present time, it still exists in rural areas . This native house is constructed using bamboos which are tied together and a roof made of nipa or anahaw leaves. The Bahay Kubo is symbolic for the Filipinos as it represents the value of “Bayanihan”, the spirit of communal unity to achieve a particular objective. The history of “Bayanihan” can be traced back to the early days where town community members volunteer to help a family move from one location to the other. They do it by carrying the house to a specific location using strong bamboo poles to lift it and carry the house to its new location.

To make the guests feel more of the Filipino spirit, Cell Fab 2 dancers composed of engineers prepared some Filipino folk dances. During their finale, the dancers went from one table to another and asked the guests to dance with them.

Some of the managers who are members of the Cell Fab 2 band also performed a couple of songs to entertain the guests. One of the participant celebrated his birthday that day so we greeted him. We sang the birthday song and gave him a small cake. He was requested to sing with the band and guess what ? Wow ! he has a good voice and everyone gave him a round of applause.

Finally, the event ended with the closing remarks of Robert Vinje, Vice President for Expansion who was so honored to meet the people who contributed to the success of SunPower in the highly competitive photovoltaic industry. To raise the enthusiasm of the dealer executives, Rob divided them into two groups and made them say my former boss’ (Greg Reichow) favorite slogan “MORE WATTS ! LOOKS GREAT ! The group who shouted ”More Watts or Looks Great”, the loudest and with more impact wins !
